Why do we guys often wait until something's wrong to take care of ourselves?

I was talking with some buddies at work the other day, and it got me thinking. It seems like a lot of us, myself included, have a habit of ignoring little aches or putting off check-ups until something forces our hand. I’m a train conductor, so I’m used to dealing with problems head-on when a warning light comes on, but with my own health, I’m not always so proactive. I’ll be out rock climbing and feel a twinge in my shoulder, but instead of getting it looked at, I just tell myself to work through it. I know I’m not alone in this. What do you think drives that “tough it out” mentality? More importantly, what are some practical ways to shift that mindset and make regular health maintenance feel less like a chore and more like just part of the routine? I’d love to hear what’s worked for others.
