Why do we glorify ‘pushing through pain’ when burnout feels like a system crash with no backup?" (Web Dev + Work Ethic)

Why Pushing Through Pain Feels Like a System Crash

I’ve been reflecting on how often we’re encouraged to just power through tough times, especially in demanding fields like web development or even my own work as a park ranger. It’s almost like a badge of honor to ignore fatigue and stress, but when burnout hits, it feels less like a personal failure and more like a total system crash no backup, no recovery mode.

From a psychological standpoint, why do we frame this as resilience instead of recognizing the need for rest? And in tech terms, if we treated our minds like we do servers prioritizing maintenance and avoiding overload would we see fewer crashes? I’m curious to hear how others balance pushing forward with knowing when to step back.
