Why do men ignore foot health when it’s literally the foundation of movement (parkour, lifting, etc.)?

Foot health seems overlooked, especially in active communities

I work as an orthoptist, so I spend my days thinking about vision and how we move through space. Outside of work, I’m really into parkour and directing short films, which has me thinking a lot about foundational support literally.

It’s interesting to me how much emphasis we put on form for a squat or a precision jump, but the actual foundation, our feet, often get ignored. We’ll invest in good shoes, sure, but what about mobility, strength, or even basic care? I see it in the gym and in parkour circles; guys will push through foot pain or dismiss it as just being sore, when it could be a sign of something that affects everything else.

From an environmental perspective too, taking care of what we have our bodies seems like a core principle. So I’m genuinely curious: why do you think foot health isn’t a bigger priority, especially for men in movement-focused activities? Is it a lack of awareness, or just not seen as “serious” training? What has your experience been?
