I’ve been turning this over in my mind lately. My main love has always been costume design, especially working with vintage pieces. It’s where my heart is. But recently, I started a small side project helping other collectors appraise and source items. It’s related, but it feels different more transactional, less creative.
Part of me wonders if I’m diluting my passion by monetizing an adjacent skill. Does putting a price on part of this world make the rest of it feel less pure? Or maybe it’s the opposite; maybe this new angle gives me a fresh perspective and even more appreciation for the craft. I’d love to hear from others who’ve walked this line. How do you keep that spark alive when part of your passion becomes a business?
