My Freelance Office is a Garage Workshop
Okay, I’ll bite. You mentioned a drill and a sketchbook, and I’m genuinely curious how that works. My own setup is pretty far from a traditional desk. I teach surfing, so my main office is the beach, but for the admin side scheduling, client emails, managing my little side hustle building custom board racks I’ve commandeered half the garage.
It’s a constant dance between my laptop perched on a workbench and grabbing tools. I’ll be typing an invoice, then pivot to sanding a piece of wood for a project. It’s chaotic but it keeps me from feeling stuck. The downside is sawdust near electronics, which is probably a terrible idea. Has anyone else merged a hands-on hobby with their digital work? How do you handle the mess or switch gears mentally without losing your flow?
