My Most Painful NFT Minting Gas Fee Story
Okay, I have to share this one because it still stings. A few months back, I got caught up in the hype around this new animal-themed PFP project. The art was… interesting, let’s say. I was convinced it was the next big thing. The mint was during peak network congestion. I was so eager to get in that I just slammed the “confirm” button without really looking. Ended up paying over 0.25 ETH just in gas to mint a single NFT. That’s right, the fee to create it was worth more than a nice dinner out.
Fast forward a week, and the floor price is sitting at a cool 0.01 ETH. I’m just holding this incredibly expensive receipt for a digital cartoon raccoon that nobody wants. It’s a brutal lesson in checking gas prices and managing FOMO. Anyone else have a minting fee horror story that makes you cringe? How do you guys time your mints to avoid getting completely rekt by the network?
