I was looking at some high-end fashion pieces recently and it got me wondering about something. If you strip away the logos and the marketing, what’s really left? We all know the materials and craftsmanship can be excellent, but the price tags often seem to reflect something else entirely a kind of social agreement about value.
It feels like part of it is about belonging to a particular story or community. But I’m curious, from an artistic or design perspective, when does the intrinsic value of an object get completely overshadowed by the brand’s narrative? How do you personally decide where that line is between appreciating quality and just buying into the hype? I’d love to hear how others navigate this.
