So I’ve been making props and costumes for a while now, mostly for friends or local theater groups. Recently, a few people have asked if they could commission pieces from me, which is exciting! But every time I quote a price, I get this weird knot in my stomach. Part of me feels like I should just be happy to share my work, and charging for it makes it feel less… genuine, maybe? I know materials cost money and time is valuable, but it’s hard to shake the guilt. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you get comfortable valuing your own creative work without feeling like you’re taking advantage?
