So, I’m an office manager, which means my days are filled with schedules, spreadsheets, and being the go-to person for, well, everything. I also love comedy it’s my main way to unwind and connect. Lately, I’ve noticed some interesting social friction. In the office, my natural instinct is to lighten the mood with a joke, but I’m learning the hard way that not every tense moment needs a punchline. It can sometimes come off as dismissive when I’m just trying to defuse things. Outside of work, when I meet new people, the “office manager” title often gets a lukewarm reaction, like it’s not a “fun” job. I feel like I have to quickly pivot to my comedy interests to seem interesting. Has anyone else found their professional role creates unexpected social hurdles? How do you balance being the responsible, organized person at work with being your more relaxed, humorous self in social settings? I’d love to hear how others blend these different parts of their life.
