Man, I hit this wall all the time in my own training and see it constantly with my athletes. You’re physically ready for that next rep or heavier weight, but something in your head just slams on the brakes. It’s the worst feeling.
What do you all do in that moment? I’ve had some success with really narrowing my focus to just one single cue, like “drive the heels” or “chest up,” instead of letting my brain chatter about the weight itself. Sometimes I’ll even take a quick step back, take one deep breath, and just commit to the movement without overthinking it.
But I’m always looking for new strategies. Anyone have a specific phrase they tell themselves, or a little ritual that helps them flip that mental switch from doubt to action?
