Marine Biologist Looking for Fitness Tips for Fieldwork

So, my day job involves a lot of wading through tidal pools, hauling gear on boats, and sometimes wrestling with stubborn sampling equipment. It’s not exactly a desk job, and I’ve realized my usual routine isn’t cutting it for the physical demands. I’m curious how others have specifically used strength and endurance training to make their daily work easier and safer. For example, what kind of functional strength exercises help with lifting heavy, awkward loads on a slippery deck? And for endurance, is it more about building stamina for long days in the water, or something else? I’d love to hear what’s worked in real-world, physically demanding jobs.
