If you could invest in a friendship like a stock, which one would you short-sell and which would you go long on?

Friendship Investments: Which Bonds to Hold or Fold?

I was mulling over this idea the other day and got curious about how others might see it. In my line of work, I’m always looking at trends and data, trying to predict what’s sustainable long-term versus what might fizzle out. It got me wondering if we treated friendships like investments, which ones would you short-sell, and which would you go long on?

For me, I’d probably short-sell a friendship that feels one-sided or overly transactional. You know, the kind where you’re always giving but rarely getting anything back it’s like betting on a stock that’s all hype with no real substance. On the flip side, I’d go long on friendships built on trust and shared interests, like the ones I have through card game nights or deep chats about history. Those connections seem to grow stronger over time, much like a solid investment.

What about you? Do you have friendships that feel like they’re on the rise or ones that might be heading for a downturn? I’d love to hear your thoughts on what makes a friendship worth holding onto.
