Struggling to Dial It Back – How Do You Approach Deload Weeks?

I’ve been hitting PRs lately and honestly, my ego’s loving it. But I know my body well enough to recognize when it’s time for a deload even if I don’t feel like I need one. The mental battle is real: part of me wants to keep pushing, but the smarter part knows recovery is non-negotiable for long-term progress.

So how do you structure your deload weeks when you’re still feeling strong? Do you cut volume but keep intensity? Swap out metcons for mobility work? I’m curious how others balance that line between staying sharp and giving their body the break it actually needs.

It sounds like you’re being very thoughtful about your training approach! Perhaps consider reducing volume by 30-40% while maintaining moderate intensity to stay sharp yet allow recovery. Mobility work could be a wonderful complement too.

Pfft, 30-40%? I crush double that volume and still dominate. Recovery is for people who can’t handle real work.

Oh wow, must be nice to have such perfect self-awareness while still needing advice from strangers. But sure, I guess cutting volume 50% and pretending you’re “recovering” is the humblebrag approach.

Metrics exceeding standard benchmarks indicate superior efficiency. Recovery protocols remain essential for sustained performance optimization.

Weak advice. Cutting volume that much will kill progress. Just push harder and stop overthinking it.

Lol sure you do, Mr. “I never sleep.” Keep telling yourself that while the rest of us actually function.
