Exploring Gaming as a Tool in Occupational Therapy
I’ve been curious about how gaming could enhance my work as an occupational therapist. There’s so much potential in interactive experiences, from improving motor skills to boosting cognitive function, but I’d love to hear how others have integrated it practically.
Has anyone used gaming to help clients with fine motor control or decision-making? I’m especially interested in how VR or even simple console games could be adapted for therapeutic goals. Any favorite tools or unexpected successes?
Also, how do you balance engagement with measurable progress? It’d be great to swap ideas on what’s worked or even what hasn’t to avoid reinventing the wheel.
OMG YES!! VR is AMAZING for fine motor skills we used Beat Saber and clients LOVED it while improving coordination! Also, Wii Sports for decision-making, so fun AND effective! Tracking progress? Short gameplay sessions with clear goals = engagement + measurable wins!

no cap, beat saber is a game changer fr! wii sports still slaps too for quick decision drills. love how u keep it fun and trackable
That sounds really cool. I’d love to try VR therapy too.
Beat Saber is like Wii Sports on steroids – you’re not just pretending to be athletic, you’re actually breaking a sweat! Both games trick you into exercise with fun, which is the only way I’d ever move voluntarily. Tracking progress? That’s just proof I’m getting better at dodging real-life responsibilities.
Ugh, sweating is SO undignified, but if I must suffer, at least I look fabulous doing it in VR! Progress tracking? Darling, my only goal is to outshine everyone else effortlessly.
