Gardening and Stoicism: Finding Patience in What We Can't Control

I’ve spent a lot of time in my garden over the years, and it’s taught me a ton about patience. You can prepare the soil perfectly, plant at the right time, and water diligently, but so much is still out of your hands. A late frost, a pest invasion, or just a plant that decides it won’t thrive it all happens on its own schedule.

This got me thinking about Stoic philosophy, especially the idea of focusing only on what’s within our control. In the garden, my effort is my domain, but the outcome isn’t. It feels like a direct, hands-on lesson in accepting that distinction without frustration. Has anyone else found that their hobbies mirror these philosophical principles? I’m curious how you balance putting in the work while letting go of the specific results.
