Gamifying Wealth Building Like an RPG Quest

I spend my days designing automated systems, but outside of work, I love diving into storyboarding and adventure games. It got me thinking about how we approach long-term goals. In a good RPG, you have a clear epic objective, but it’s broken down into smaller, rewarding quests that keep you hooked for hundreds of hours. Saving for retirement or building wealth often feels like the opposite a distant, abstract grind.

What if we applied that quest design logic to personal finance? Instead of just tracking a number, you could have a “campaign map” for your financial life. Early “quests” might be defeating a debt monster or securing your first artifact (an emergency fund). Later, you’d unlock more complex strategies, like crafting a diversified portfolio or establishing passive income streams. Each milestone could come with a tangible, non-financial reward to celebrate the progress.

I’m curious how others would design this. What would the core gameplay loop be to make checking your investments feel as compelling as checking your quest log? How do we build in that sense of adventure and progression without losing sight of the real-world stakes?
