Do Philosophical Ideas Build Like Archaeological Layers?

Lately, I’ve been struck by how archaeology uncovers history layer by layer each dig revealing something new while still resting on what came before. It makes me wonder if philosophy works the same way. Are we constantly building on older ideas, or does each generation start fresh? I’d love to hear how others see it. Does philosophy feel like a gradual excavation of truth, or are there moments where everything shifts dramatically? As someone who dabbles in creative work, I’m curious how these patterns might apply to other fields, too. What do you think?
