Dividend Decisions: Reinvest or Take the Cash in a Taxable Account?

I’ve been wrestling with this one lately. When dividends hit my taxable brokerage account, I’m never quite sure if I should let them reinvest automatically or just take the cash. On one hand, reinvesting seems like the classic “set it and forget it” move for compounding, but on the other, having the cash gives me flexibility to rebalance or fund other opportunities without triggering a sale. I’m especially curious how others factor in things like tax drag from the extra lots or if your current portfolio allocation plays a big role in the choice. What’s your usual thought process when that payout comes through?
