Can Stress Actually Clarify What Matters Most to Us?

Lately, I’ve noticed how stress seems to sharpen some of my decisions while completely clouding others. On one hand, tight deadlines at work force me to focus on what’s critical like catching discrepancies in financial records (forensic accounting keeps you on your toes!). But on the other, it makes me question whether I’m just reacting to pressure or if my choices truly align with what I care about.

For example, when I’m stressed, I’ll drop everything to fine-tune a robotics project or obsess over the details of a new outfit almost like my brain latches onto those interests for comfort. Does that mean they’re my real priorities, or is stress just distorting my usual clarity? Curious if others have experienced this push-and-pull. How do you tell the difference between what matters and what’s just a coping mechanism?
