Budgeting Tips for a Forensic Investigator’s Busy Life

Forensic investigators have such unpredictable schedules some days are packed with fieldwork, others are spent buried in reports. I’ve been wondering how better budgeting could help manage the financial side of this hectic routine. Between gear upkeep, travel, and those late-night coffee runs, expenses can add up fast.

For those in the field, how do you balance irregular paychecks or unexpected costs? Do you set aside a fixed amount for case-related expenses, or do you track everything as it comes? I’d love to hear how others handle budgeting when every workweek looks different. Also, any apps or methods that work well for tracking spending without eating up too much time?

On a side note, does anyone find that budgeting helps reduce stress outside of work? I’m curious if staying on top of finances makes it easier to unwind after a tough case. Thanks in advance for any tips!
