Balancing Honesty and Oversharing in Social Settings

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how to strike the right balance between being open and keeping things appropriate in conversations. As someone who works with heavy equipment, I’m used to straightforward communication, but social situations can feel trickier. I don’t want to come across as distant, but I also don’t want to overshare and make things awkward.

For example, when someone asks how my day was, I might want to dive into the details of a challenging project or even something personal, but I’m never sure if that’s too much. How do you gauge what’s appropriate to share? Are there cues you look for, or do you have a mental checklist to keep things balanced? I’d love to hear how others navigate this especially in casual or professional settings.
