Working at a shop, I see a lot of cars come through with some pretty questionable “upgrades.” The other day, a customer was absolutely convinced that swapping to a short ram intake, with no heat shielding, gave his Civic an extra 30 horsepower. We dyno’d it, and it actually lost a couple. It got me wondering what are some of the worst performance myths you’ve run into? I’m not talking about obvious jokes, but things people genuinely swear make their car faster. Things like those “performance” chips that just trick the ECU or removing the muffler for “better flow” when it just makes it obnoxiously loud. Any other head-scratchers out there?
