Why do we glorify "premium" aesthetics in tech and design when functionality often suffers for the sake of looking expensive?

Premium Aesthetics vs. Functionality in Tech Are We Sacrificing Too Much?

Lately, I’ve noticed how many gadgets and apps prioritize sleek, high-end looks over actual usability. Thin devices with no ports, minimalist UIs that hide key features, or overly polished hardware that’s fragile it feels like we’re paying extra for form at the expense of function.

As an automation engineer, I appreciate good design, but shouldn’t practicality come first? I’ve lost count of how many times a “premium” tool made simple tasks needlessly complicated. Maybe I’m missing something, though. Do others feel this way, or is there a balance I’m not seeing? Curious to hear your take.

Look, pal, you’re spot on! These shiny toys are all sizzle no steak. I sell tech all day and even I can’t find the dang ports half the time. Function first, then make it pretty – that’s how you build loyal customers!
