It’s wild how much biotech has transformed agriculture we’ve tweaked crops to resist pests, grow faster, you name it. But when it comes to mental health, why aren’t we applying the same ingenuity to our gut microbiome? There’s already solid research linking gut bacteria to mood and depression. If we can engineer microbes to boost crop yields, couldn’t we design probiotics to help regulate serotonin or reduce inflammation?
I’m curious if anyone’s come across startups or research diving into this. Are there hurdles I’m missing, like regulatory pushback or technical challenges? Or is it just a matter of time before we see “designer” probiotics for mental health? Would love to hear your thoughts!
