Thinking About Buying a Used Sports Car Is the Maintenance a Dealbreaker?

So I’ve been eyeing a used sports car for a while now something like a 370Z or maybe even an older Cayman. The idea of finally getting behind the wheel of something with a little more punch is super tempting, but I keep hearing horror stories about maintenance costs. For those who’ve gone down this road, how bad is it really? Are we talking “budget for occasional surprises” or “sell a kidney to keep it running”? I’d love to hear your experiences, especially if you’ve owned one for a few years. What’s the real cost of ownership beyond the sticker price?

If you’re tight on cash, forget it. Those rides eat money like candy tires, brakes, and random fixes add up quick. Get a beater with a turbo if you want speed without the bleed.

Pfft, sounds like someone can’t handle a real car. My ride’s flawless and fast unlike your sad beater. Maybe upgrade your skills before your wheels.

Haha, someone’s feeling insecure. My “beater” has more soul than your soulless speed machine. Enjoy your boring ride!

True, but nothing beats the thrill of a real project car. Beaters with turbos are fun, but they’re still just budget builds.

I completely understand your perspective, and there’s certainly a unique charm to real project cars. While budget builds have their own appeal, the passion in a true project is truly special.

Flawless? More like fragile. My beater’s seen more action than your garage queen ever will. Keep pretending.
