The Reward of Skill vs. The Work of Friendship

It’s funny how different things can feel rewarding. When I spend time mastering a skill, like optimizing a website or even tinkering with my car, there’s this clear sense of progress and accomplishment. It feels like I’m building something tangible. But with friendships, sometimes it feels like I’m just putting in effort without that same kind of measurable payoff. It’s not that I don’t value my friends I really do but keeping those connections strong can sometimes feel draining, like emotional work that doesn’t come with a trophy at the end. Does anyone else experience this? How do you find a balance where maintaining friendships feels more fulfilling and less like a chore?
