Struggling with Pistol Squats – Any Tips to Build Strength and Balance?

Lately, I’ve been putting in work on pistol squats, and man, they’re humbling. My strength is there, but balancing on one leg while hitting depth feels like a puzzle I haven’t quite solved. Right now, I’m using a bench for support to gradually lower myself and build control, but I’d love to hear how others have progressed with these. Did you focus on mobility drills first, or did you tackle the movement head-on with progressions? Also, any cues that helped you stay stable at the bottom? Appreciate the advice!

Pistol squats are no joke! I started with holding onto a doorframe for balance, then slowly worked my way down. Mobility drills helped a ton, especially ankle and hip stretches. Keeping my core tight was the for stability.
