Stoicism and the Inevitability of Decay: A Curious Perspective

I’ve been mulling over something lately and would love to hear your thoughts. Stoicism often emphasizes accepting what we can’t control, and decay whether in our bodies, relationships, or even our projects feels like one of those universal inevitabilities. On one hand, the idea that everything fades can seem pretty bleak. But on the other, Stoicism teaches us to find peace in that acceptance, to focus on our response rather than the outcome.

Does that framework actually make the concept of decay more comforting for you? Or does acknowledging it so directly just highlight the sadness? I’m really curious how others reconcile this especially since, in my line of work, I see a lot of focus on fighting decay through science and innovation. Maybe there’s a balance between accepting the natural order and still valuing progress. What’s your take?
