Lately, I’ve been wrestling with this question: as filmmakers, are we shaping meaning from the stories we tell, or are we just holding up a mirror to the chaos around us? It’s easy to get lost in the technical side of things lighting, composition, pacing but at its core, filmmaking feels like it should mean something.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve grappled with this. Do you go into a project with a clear message in mind, or do you let the story unfold organically, even if it stays messy? And how do you balance artistry with the unpredictability of real life?
(Also, if anyone else here is into extreme sports or running, I’d bet there’s a crossover between chasing that adrenaline rush and chasing the perfect shot. Maybe chaos is just part of the process?)
