I work as a dispatch coordinator, so I’m always thinking about how systems make decisions efficiently. Lately, I’ve been curious about how Stoicism might apply to the ethical challenges posed by autonomous AI, especially when those systems have to make choices that affect people’s lives. Stoicism emphasizes virtue, reason, and focusing on what’s within our control so how would that translate to programming or guiding AI in uncertain or high-stakes situations? For example, if an AI has to prioritize resources in an emergency, could Stoic principles help define its priorities in a way that aligns with human values? I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether ancient philosophy has a place in modern tech ethics.
