Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how much of diving confidence is just a mental hack to keep calm in that vast blue emptiness. There’s something surreal about being suspended in open water with no reference points it’s equal parts peaceful and unnerving.
I’ve logged a fair number of dives, and while experience helps, there are still moments where that creeping sense of isolation tries to sneak in. Do you think confidence underwater is something you actively build, or is it more about tricking your brain into staying cool? How do you guys handle those moments when the nothingness feels a little too endless? Would love to hear how others frame it in their minds.
(Also, if anyone’s up for post-dive beer chats about this, I’m all in texture art pays the bills, but craft beer and diving feed the soul.)
