So I was at the box the other day and saw someone just miss a clean PR. The reaction was… intense. Like, full-on staring at the barbell in disbelief, hands on head, the whole bit. I get being disappointed I’ve been there in theater when a cue gets missed or a prop fails. You put in the work and want to see it pay off.
But it got me thinking: why does it sometimes feel like such a monumental, almost theatrical event in CrossFit? Is it the community aspect that amplifies the stakes, or maybe the way the workouts are structured to build up to these big attempts? I’m curious if others have noticed this and what your take is. Is there a mindset shift that helps keep the drama in check while still staying motivated?
