So, I’ve got this idea bouncing around my head and I’d love to get some perspective. I work full-time as a dental therapist, but outside of that, I’m really drawn to aquaculture. The problem is, whenever I look into it, it seems like the market is absolutely saturated with shrimp farms. It makes me wonder if there’s even a point for someone like me to start something small on the side.
I don’t have a background in marine biology or business, just a genuine curiosity and a willingness to learn. Is there room for a niche operation, or is the barrier to entry just too high now? Maybe there are other species or approaches that aren’t getting as much attention. I’d be curious to hear from anyone who’s made a similar jump from a totally different field. What were the first steps that actually made sense?
