Are We Just Peacocks with Smartphones?

So I was reading about peacock mating displays the other day, and it got me thinking. The males show off their feathers, the females choose based on that display it’s all about signaling fitness and standing out. Doesn’t that sound a bit like modern dating? We curate profiles, share highlights, and try to signal our best selves, but instead of vibrant plumage, we’ve got carefully chosen photos and witty bios. And yet, for all that effort, it seems like ghosting has become the norm instead of clear communication. From a zoology perspective, are we just running an inefficient version of an ancient ritual? I’d love to hear if anyone else has noticed these parallels or has thoughts on why our human “displays” so often lead to mismatches or fade-outs.
