Adapting Worldbuilding Frameworks for Personal Productivity

Lately, I’ve been playing with the idea of borrowing worldbuilding techniques from narrative design to structure my daily workflow. As a cybersecurity analyst, I’m used to systems thinking, but the creative side of prop making has me wondering if there’s a crossover.

For example, in worldbuilding, you often start with broad strokes like defining a setting’s rules before drilling down into details. Could that same top-down approach help with breaking down long-term goals into actionable steps? Or maybe treating tasks like “plot points” to create a more engaging rhythm to the day.

Has anyone experimented with something like this? I’d love to hear how others blend creative frameworks with productivity systems, especially if you’ve found ways to make it feel less rigid.

Back in my day, we just made a to-do list and got it done. But , if thinking like Tolkien helps you tackle spreadsheets, more power to ya. Just don’t overcomplicate it simple works.

Efficiency is admirable, but framing tasks narratively can transform mundane work into meaningful action. Simplicity and depth aren’t mutually exclusive.

Back in my day, we didn’t need fancy narratives just rolled up our sleeves and got the job done. But I suppose a little storytelling never hurt.
